2015 was bonkers.
First, I’d like to thank everyone for their support of Compact Discography over the past year. This site has been a hobby project of mine since January 2013 but things really started to take off in 2015. Page views are up over 450% from 2014 and by August, I had surpassed the previous two years combined. In October, I partnered with my buddy Eric Dern to launch Compact Culture as a companion site to Compact Discography where we can aggregate content from both of our sites and expand our reach to other topics including music, film, TV, video games, sports and more. We’re hoping to bring more writers into Compact Culture in 2016 and continue to build on the foundation Eric and I have worked hard to create (if you’re interested in writing for Compact Culture, leave a comment below). Whether you’re joining us for the first time or have been here from the start, thank you so much for your support of Compact Discography.
Let’s get down to business.
This page will serve as the guide to the Compact Discography year end festivities. Like last year, I will be counting down my Top 5 Podcasts, Top 40 Songs and Top 20 Albums of 2015 through the month of January. I’ve decided to add a new category for 2015: Top 5 Live Performances so that should be fun. Compact Discography has always been about my personal relationship with music and as an avid concert attendee, this seemed like a logical addition to my yearly recap. It’s been a solid year for music and I’ve been agonizing over these rankings for a while and even as I write this, I’m still shuffling things around so we’re all going to see how this thing shakes out together. Just FYI: even though a lot of the music that appears on these lists was formally reviewed by Compact Discography throughout the year, the year end rankings will not necessarily correlate to the scores I gave. There are almost certainly going to be controversial selections over the next few weeks so get into the comments and let the conversation begin.
