48/50: “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton
I’ve spent most of the last 24 hours entranced by the alt-country soul of Sturgill Simpson’s A Sailor’s Guide to Earth and that got my ears hungry for more country-that-doesn’t-quite-feel-like-country and so I turn to Christ Stapleton’s 2015 album Traveller. After years of sneering at country music, Traveller marked the first time I found myself really enjoying contemporary country music. Good tunes are universal and “Tennessee Whiskey” is a damn good tune.
