19/365: “I Give You Power” by Arcade Fire featuring Mavis Staples

On the eve of President elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, Arcade Fire have returned to team up with Mavis Staples for “I Give You Power”, a dark and brooding protest anthem. Whether this track ends up on their allegedly complete but as yet untitled 5th LP still remains to be seen but this is a decisive new direction for the band. After running a reckless and divisive campaign, Trump’s presidency is likely to be the inspiration for a lot of new politically charged music and while I hope the world doesn’t come crumbling down around us, if it does, The End is going to have one hell of a soundtrack.
